Room booking on the edge hos Syntronic

Description of the thesis proposal:

In this project, an IoT solution for a room booking service will be implemented and evaluated.

IoT devices continuously find novel applications with increasing efficiency and capabilities of computational technology.

Here, we propose to investigate the concept of a dedicated device to simplify on-the-spot room bookings for e.g. an office conference room. The device should then provide an interface to allow users to monitor and conveniently schedule bookings. By wireless communication and self-sufficient power supply, the device is easily deployable and require low maintenance.

The task will be to design and construct an IoT device capable of displaying and editing room bookings from a Zimbra server. The energy supply for the device will be completely self-sufficient using efficient solar panels.

What we're looking for:

The proposed project will require a dedicated student with interests in a wide range of engineering subjects, such as embedded programming, user interface design and low-power edge computing. Depending on the applicant’s background and interests, we are flexible in the exact scope of the thesis project.
