Network/Linux System Administrator at BAE Systems


Job Description
BAE Systems is looking for an experienced Linux system administrator with network engineering skills to install, configure, and maintain air-gapped computer systems and network devices in a lab environment. This equipment implements a pseudo-cloud testbed that is routinely and frequently razed and reconfigured to meet changing requirements. The qualified candidate will work in classified and unclassified environments with program staff and sponsors to ensure the testbed are properly configured and available to support experimentation. The candidate will also perform regular maintenance and operation of equipment as necessary (e.g., account creation, backups, failed hardware replacement, cabling, software and OS updates, STIGs, etc.).
Tasks may include:
  • Perform systems administration activities on Linux servers and workstations (e.g., account creation and management, hardening, troubleshooting, OS and application installation, etc.)
  • Maintain and configure network devices and peripherals (e.g., switches, firewalls, encryption gear, etc.)
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on computers, peripherals, and networking equipment (e.g., repair, backup, reconfiguring, re-cabling, etc.)
  • Perform system architecture and design tasks such as power, cooling, and networking analysis
  • Perform inventory, configuration, and change management tasks
  • Develop system security plans including, security concepts of operation, risk management matrix, security control traceability matrix, security test procedures, and plan of action and milestones
  • Coordinate and/or perform vulnerability scans, static code scans and dynamic code scans to detect software vulnerabilities
  • Conduct and analyze vulnerability assessments to validate system compliance with DISA Security Technical Information Guidelines (STIGS)
  • Identify and implement vulnerability resolutions and/or mitigations
  • Conduct security test events to achieve accreditation milestones

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, computer science, or technical discipline, and 8+ year(s) related experience or equivalent experience, training and/or certifications.
Required Skills:
  • System administration experience with Linux computer systems running RHEL7 and 8
  • Experience with typical RHEL admin and troubleshooting tools
  • Network configuration, administration, and maintenance experience
  • Experience operating and maintaining computer testbed and/or lab
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or equivalent (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship status

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • ISC2 CISSP or equivalent certification
  • CompTIA Linux+ or equivalent certification
  • Windows system administration experience
  • Experience with other flavors of Linux (e.g., Ubuntu, Debian)
  • Experience installing and using Red Hat OpenShift
  • Experience installing and maintaining Sonatype Nexus, yum, FreeIPA, and Docker registries
  • Experience managing large, virtualized, networks and test beds
  • Ability to communicate effectively with higher level managers, functional managers, customers, industry partners, and teammates
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to be productive in a dynamic/collaborative environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively build and lead teams
  • Good mentoring skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Planning and organizational skills
  • US Citizenship and ability to be granted a security clearance by the Federal Government
